Although from a chronological point of view this is the third work in the series on the Rivers of Hades, it does represent the fourth river, the fourth level in the cycle. The Isle of the Dead reference is consciously chosen. Thank you, master Böcklin.
Styx is the name of the river where the gods swore their oaths, and on this level in my cycle the deceased gradually loses the archetypical level of his/her being, so that only the essence is left, and reaches the end of the cycle of Chronos (Saturn) which imposes a border that is not to be crossed for as long as the essence is interacting with experiences in the three-dimensional universe of linear time. This leads to the fifth river, Lethe. Beyond linear time and that Chronos border, there are two possibilities: Tartaros, or the gradual decomposing into more and more primal cosmic "matter" or the Makaroon Nesoi, Isles of the Blessed. Entropy or Negentropy.
To be continued when I will have drawn Lethe...
