DE ZOETE GENEUGTEN VAN DE SPELEOLOGIE

pen and watercolour on paper
1993 - 196 x 148 mm

I was quickly losing all interest in etching because it didn't allow for spontaneity anymore. Even the time and the temperature the plate spent in the acid-bath was precalculated. So I wondered why I would go through all that nuisance simply to have more than one copies of a work. So I tried something more like the early etchings. What's more: I didn't have the presses at the Academy at my disposal anymore, so I had to sneak in and disturb the enrolled people's work.
I only printed one copy of this one, and didn't even finish it. So like the painting Unvollendete, this is not a finished artwork, but serves to show a step in my artistic evolution.
